*** Invitation and Call for Papers ***

Feminist Literary Studies: Gender, Culture, and Creativity

The Korean Society for Feminist Studies in English Literature is hosting its 3rd International Conference “Feminist Literary Studies: Gender, Culture, and Creativity”, in conjunction with the 9th International Interdisciplinary Congress on Women (WW05), held on 19-24 June, 2005 at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea.

Among 20 sub-themes at the 9th WW05 Congress, the Korean Society for Feminist Studies in English Literature is interested in organizing the several sessions related to women’s literary creativity.  We hope to explore “feminist” approaches to literary and cultural studies, and women’s creativity as theory, pedagogy, and practice in different socio-cultural, historical, national, and local/global contexts.  Though Asian women’s creativity is our main focus, we welcome papers that work with/from the diverse and competing traditions in other continents.  We believe that it is juxtaposing various positions and histories together and by articulating the possibilities and the limitations of each that alternative paradigms can be conceived and transformative alliances created.

Please send 300 words proposal to So-Hee Lee (shlee@hywoman.ac.kr) by December 31, 2004, as well as send the same proposal to ww05@ewha.ac.kr. You may also submit your proposal through the website, http;//www.ww05.org. Several funding programs are available for the presenters from the global South.  Please click “funding” on the bar in the website for the precise information.

Please do not hesitate to ask So-Hee Lee if you have any questions about the FSEL’s 3rd International Conference as well as the 9th WW05 Congress, since she is now taking charge of the theme coordinator, “Culture & Creativity” for the 9th WW05 Congress as well as the Vice President and the Editor-in-Chief for the Korean Society for Feminist Studies in English Literature.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in Seoul, Korea, on 19-24 June, 2005.
